Beginning Sound Game

Tell the child that the following words start with the /z/ sound: zip, zoom and zipper.  Can he or she tell which of the words in the list below start with the /z/ sound?

fast                     zippy
zoo                      grandmother
water                   zone
zinnia                   zigzag

Ending Sound Game

Tell the child that the following words end with the /z/ sound:  buzz and fizz.  Ask which of the words below end with the /z/ sound.

fuzz                     sun
tree                      help
biz                       whiz

Listening for Vowels

Take out the stick puppets for the letters u and a  Say the words in the list below, emphasizing the vowel sound in each word.  Signal your child with your hand when he or she should listen.  Have your child touch the puppet that makes the sound heard in the word.

wait                     same
use                      us
just                      bus

Beginning Sound Game

Tell your child that the following words start with the /b/ sound:  bee, big and buzz.  Have your child tell which of the words below start with the /b/ sound.

ball                      but
banana                long
sad                      bear
boat                    down
wings                   bird
before                 pause

Separator Alligator

Take out the Separator Alligator stick puppet and say the words on the list below as the Alligator would say them.  Remind your child of how Buh Buh Bee learned to say a new word by saying the words slowly like the Slowtalker.  If your child has trouble saying a word after you say it broken apart, try having the child blend the sounds like the Slowtalker.
